How much noni juice per day? Why 120 ml is the amount that matters

The recommended amount is 120 ml of NUI NONI Original a day, but most people drink around 47 ml. What half a glass provides, why the nutrient information is tied to 120 ml and how you get to two glasses.

In brief: The recommended amount of NUI NONI Original is 120 ml a day, i.e. two glasses of 60 ml. Using twelve months of order history, we measured how much our customers actually drink: typically around 47 ml a day, less than half. That’s no drama, but it has a clear consequence: all nutrient information and all authorised claims for vitamin C, biotin, vitamin B12 and calcium refer to 120 ml. If you drink 47 ml, you get around 40 % of that. Why this is so, what half a glass actually provides and how you get to two glasses: we explain it here step by step.

How much NUI NONI Original should you drink a day?

The recommended intake for adults is 2 × 60 ml a day, 120 ml in total. One glass in the morning, one in the evening. Neat or stirred into a glass of water, as you prefer. That’s what it says on the label, and it’s the amount we work with when we talk about nutrients.

At 120 ml a day, a 750 ml bottle lasts a good six days. The NUI NONI Shots of 60 ml each are the same recipe in portion size: two shots make one day.

The number 120 is no coincidence. It is the amount that every statement we are allowed to make about vitamin C, biotin, vitamin B12 and calcium in this juice refers to. More on that shortly.

How much do our customers really drink?

We didn’t want to guess; we wanted to know. So we analysed twelve months of order history: how many bottles does a customer order, and how many days pass between their orders? That gives the actual amount drunk per day. We only included customers with at least two juice purchases at least 25 days apart, so that one-off purchases and gifts don’t distort the figure.

The result surprised us:

Actual amount drunk per day Share of customers
under 30 ml 27 %
30 to 59 ml 43 %
60 to 99 ml 18 %
100 ml and more 12 %

The typical amount is around 47 ml a day. Seven out of ten customers drink less than one glass. Only about one in eight comes close to the recommended 120 ml.

The figure has its blurred edges, and that’s part of it: giving a bottle away or sharing it with the family pushes it down. Buying extra in a shop pushes it up. That doesn’t change the order of magnitude. Most people drink well under half the recommended amount.

What do you get at 47 ml, and what at 120 ml?

A juice isn’t a tablet. The nutrients are evenly distributed in the liquid, so the maths is simple: if you drink 40 % of the amount, you get 40 % of the nutrients. For NUI NONI Original, it looks like this (values from the accredited laboratory analysis, Institut Kurz, test report 23002686):

Nutrient at 47 ml at 120 ml Share of the reference intake (NRV) 47 ml / 120 ml
Vitamin C 104 mg 266 mg 130 % / 333 %
Biotin 49 µg 125 µg 98 % / 250 %
Vitamin B12 0.9 µg 2.4 µg 38 % / 96 %
Calcium 47 mg 120 mg 6 % / 15 %
Bar chart: share of the daily reference intake at 47 ml and at 120 ml of NUI NONI Original for vitamin C, biotin, vitamin B12 and calcium. At 47 ml, calcium falls below the 15 percent threshold.
The same juice, just less of it: at 47 ml, around 40 % of each nutrient amount that applies to 120 ml remains. This takes calcium below the 15 % threshold.

Two things stand out.

Vitamin C remains considerable even with half a glass. 104 mg is more than the reference intake for one day. If that’s your only reason for drinking noni, half a glass doesn’t serve you badly.

With the other three, it tips over. Vitamin B12 drops from almost a full reference intake to just over a third. Calcium falls below the 15 % threshold from which a food may be called a source of calcium at all. And vitamin C falls below the 200 mg required for a particular claim (see next section).

In other words: with half a glass, you’re drinking a different product from the one described on the label.

Why is the nutrient information tied to 120 ml?

Because the law requires it, and for good reason. Claims such as “Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system” are authorised in the EU and scientifically assessed. However, a manufacturer may only use them if the product contains a significant amount of the nutrient in the stated daily amount. A significant amount means at least 15 % of the reference intake.

That’s why, under every such claim, we state: based on a daily intake of 120 ml. The amount is part of the claim. Without it, the claim isn’t wrong, it’s simply no longer covered.

For 120 ml of NUI NONI Original, these authorised claims apply, among others:

  • Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system, contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, contributes to normal psychological function, contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
  • Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism.
  • Vitamin B12 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system.
  • Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones, contributes to normal muscle function.

An example shows how closely amount and claim are linked: “Vitamin C contributes to maintain the normal function of the immune system during and after intense physical exercise” may only be used for foods that provide a daily intake of at least 200 mg of vitamin C; the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg in addition to the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. With 120 ml, it’s 266 mg. With 47 ml, it’s 104 mg, and the claim no longer applies.

That’s the core of this article: these sentences don’t describe “noni”, but these nutrients in this amount. The amount determines whether the sentences apply to your glass.

Half a tank, half the distance: a comparison

Imagine you only fill your car’s tank halfway. The fuel is the same, the engine is the same. But you only get half as far. Not because anything is worse, but because there’s less in it.

The label of NUI NONI Original describes the full tank: 120 ml, with the amounts of vitamin C, biotin, vitamin B12 and calcium shown in the table above. With half a glass a day, you have about 40 % of that in the tank. That’s not nothing. But it’s not the distance the tank is designed for.

And as with a car: you can’t fill it more than full. We don’t recommend “as much as possible”, but the amount on the label. Two glasses, every day. That’s the full tank.

“Noni is too expensive if you drink too little”: what a customer meant by that

A customer said this to us, and it stayed with us for a while, because at first glance it sounds the wrong way round. If you drink less, surely you spend less?

Per day, that’s true. At half a glass, a bottle lasts sixteen days instead of six. But you don’t pay for days. You pay for what’s in the bottle. And at half a glass, you only get 40 % of it each day, for sixteen days. The reference intakes on the label are daily amounts: what you don’t drink today, you don’t make up tomorrow. Half a glass doesn’t make the bottle cheaper. It just empties more slowly.

That’s how we understand the sentence: it’s not the price per bottle that decides whether noni is worth it for you, but whether you drink the amount the bottle is intended for. Half a glass is half a tank at the full price.

How do you get to two glasses a day?

Most people who drink too little didn’t plan it that way. It happens because a glass gets skipped now and then, or because nobody measures out 60 ml. What helps in practice:

Two fixed anchors. One glass with your first coffee, one after dinner. If you tie the two glasses to something that happens every day anyway, you no longer have to think about it.

A glass that knows the amount. Our NUI drinking glass holds exactly 60 ml. Filled once, it’s half the daily amount. If you don’t have such a glass: a shot glass usually holds 20 ml, and three of them make one glass.

The bottle in sight. At the front of the fridge, not behind the milk. What you see, you drink.

The shots on the go. If you’re out of the house in the morning, take a shot with you. Two shots make one day, no measuring needed.

The taste. Noni is tart. If you don’t like it neat, stir your glass into water or a smoothie. The amount stays the same: 60 ml of juice per portion.

The supply. If you need a bottle every six days, you shop differently than if you need one every two weeks. A larger pack or a subscription saves you reordering, and the bottle doesn’t run out in between.

Frequently asked questions

How much noni juice per day is recommended?
For adults, 120 ml a day, split into 2 × 60 ml. That’s the recommended intake on the label of NUI NONI Original and the amount all nutrient information refers to.

Can I drink the 120 ml all at once?
Yes. We recommend two portions because a glass in the morning and one in the evening are easier to fit into your day than one large portion. What matters is the daily amount.

Is half a glass a day pointless?
No. You get part of the nutrients: at 47 ml, about 40 % of the amounts at 120 ml. Even then, vitamin C is still above the reference intake for one day. Only the claims and percentages on the label no longer apply to this amount.

What happens if I drink more than 120 ml?
Stick to 120 ml. That’s the amount the product is intended for and that all information refers to. More is not intended.

How long does a bottle last?
At 120 ml a day, a good six days. At 47 ml a day, sixteen days. If your bottle lasts longer than a week, you’re drinking less than recommended.

Neat or diluted?
Both work. Stirred into water, the juice tastes milder. The amount stays the same: 60 ml of juice per portion, no matter how much water you add.

How do you know how much your customers drink?
From twelve months of order history: bottles per customer divided by the days between orders, only for customers with at least two purchases. The analysis is anonymous and says nothing about individuals, only about the group as a whole.

Does the amount also apply to the NUI NONI Shots?
Yes. One shot is 60 ml of the same recipe. Two shots a day equal 120 ml.

How much noni juice may children drink?
Much less: from three years, one teaspoon (about 5 ml) a day; from six years, one tablespoon (about 10 ml); from twelve years, up to 2 × 30 ml, each time stirred into a glass of water or juice.

Our position

We could live quite happily with the figure 47. A bottle that lasts sixteen days is convenient for the customer and no problem for us. We’re writing this article anyway, because we believe you should know what you’re drinking and what you’re not.

Everything we are allowed to say about NUI NONI Original applies to 120 ml a day. Not to one glass, not to half a glass. If you drink less, you get less, and we’d rather say that clearly than hide it behind pretty pictures.

Two glasses a day. One in the morning, one in the evening. That’s the full tank, and that’s what the bottle is made for.

A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are the basis for health and well-being. The effects mentioned refer to a daily intake of 120 ml (2 × 60 ml). If you take anticoagulants or have impaired kidney function, talk to your doctor before consuming.

Nutritional values: accredited laboratory analysis Institut Kurz GmbH, test report 23002686 (23/06/2023), values per 100 ml: vitamin C 221.9 mg, biotin 104 µg, vitamin B12 2.0 µg, calcium 100.1 mg. Nutrient reference values (NRV) according to Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex XIII. Amounts drunk: our own analysis of order history, 12 months, 252 customers with at least two juice purchases.
